Fitness Center / Fitness Class Rules & Policies

  • Showers are available exclusively for YMCA Fitness Center members using gym facilities ONLY. DROP-INS are excluded from the use of showers.
  • Personal belongings must be kept on or in lockers.
  • Cell phone conversations should be taken outside of the Fitness Center.
  • No drinks allowed on mats or near fitness machines. Consume drinks near lockers.
  • Shower use limited to YMCA Fitness Center members only - no Drop-ins are allowed to use showers.
  • Do not move or unplug machines or equipment.
  • Clean equipment before & after use.
  • Weights are to be re-racked after use. Do not slam or drop barbell weights on the ground.
  • Cardio machine usage is limited to 20 minutes when others are waiting.
  • No reserving of gym equipment.
  • Maintain even weight distribution on Smith machine to prevent breakage.
  • WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE.

Dress Code

As a family organization we have adopted a modest dress code policy. This policy aligns with the Y’s mission and core valuesso that everyone is comfortable when they come to the Y. Staff may ask a member or guest to change because of inappropriate attire. 

  • Clothing is required for use of the Fitness Center
  • Tops should cover the full torso including your chest and ribcage. Sports bras, crop tops, halter tops, tank tops, or any other sleeveless shirts that expose the torso are not permitted. However, for select fitness classes, (i.e. hula and Tahitian), participants have the option to wear tops that do not cover the full torso at the discretion of the class instructor for the duration of the class only.
  • Full coverage shorts need to be longer than your glutes. 
  • Wide-leg yoga pants, or any other bottoms with excess fabric are not permitted in the Fitness Center due to safety concerns in relation to equipment use 
  • Articles of clothing that are transparent or become transparent when wet may not be worn in the Fitness Center. 
  • Apparel should not display derogatory or divisive graphics or language. 
  • Covered shoes are required in the Fitness Center. Crocs, (or Croc-like shoes), open toe sandals/open-toe shoes are not acceptable. However, for select fitness classes, (i.e. hula and Tahitian), participants may have the option to go barefoot or wear appropriate footwear at the discretion of the class instructor for the duration of the class only.
  • YMCA staff reserve the right to deem attire worn in the Fitness Center appropriate in accordance with the dress code.

Effective January 1, 2026:  All medical members will be assessed a fee of $7 for a new or replacement key fob.

New Enrollees: If you are enrolling through a health/medical insurance plan, provide proof from your health/medical insurance provider that indicates the Island of Hawaii YMCA is the facility of choice.

Fitness Classes

We offer a variety of fitness classes for Gym members. Check our Class Schedule for available classes.

Registration is required to attend Fitness Classes & Coaching Classes.  Class sizes are limited.  Please login to the Member Portal or GymMaster Member App.

Fitness Center Registration

  1. Come to our front office
  2. Bring Valid ID and medical card
  3. Complete your YMCA membership and fitness center form

FIRST VISIT: Please remember to bring your ID on your first visit and pickup your ID fob at the front desk.

New Y Members:

1) Register for a lifetime YMCA Membership (covers up to 6 household members).
2) Login to the YMCA's portal (Gym Master) and add a gym membership.
3) Visit us at the YMCA for assistance or call us at 808-935-3721 ext 1008.
